Delaware State Police said a 69-year-old woman chased a man who had stolen her purse in Claymont.
It happened shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Super Fresh on Philadelphia Pike. Troopers said the woman was putting groceries in her car when a man got out of a pickup truck near her.
Police said the man – described as standing between 5-foot, 8-inches tall and 6-foot, 2-inches tall and weighing between 180 to 200 pounds who wore a red buttoned-down shirt, khakis and a tan baseball cap – grabbed her purse out of the shopping cart. The woman held onto the purse and struggled with the robber, authorities said, but the man wrested the purse from her.
Troopers said the robber fled to the truck, but the woman ran after him and grabbed her purse. The robber again was able to get the purse from the woman, and drove off.
The woman was not hurt.
