DRPA Public Safety Director Abuses E-Z Pass

Delaware River Port Authority employee must forfeit 3 days pay.

The public safety director for the Delaware River Port Authority has agreed to repay $4600 and forfeit three days' pay for abusing an E-ZPass perk.

All 450 DRPA employees get E-ZPass transponders limited to 100 free bridge crossings a year.

An official says Joyce used his E-ZPass transponder but accepted a second one for his family from a former DRPA colleague who doesn't drive.

DRPA Executive Director John Matheussen says the policy about their usage is "not crystal clear." Matheussen says the policy is being clarified in writing.

Joyce is paid $180,081 a year, plus a $9,000 annual car allowance. The Pennsauken resident declined comment.

The DRPA operates the Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman and Commodore Barry bridges, which span the Delaware River. It also operates a regional rail line.
