Prosecutors Testify About Filthy Abortion Clinic

Pennsylvania Senate seeks to fix what allowed Gosnell to operate for so long

Pennsylvania lawmakers are hearing from prosecutors who are charging an abortion doctor with eight counts of murder in the deaths of a patient and seven newborns at a filthy West Philadelphia clinic.

At the outset of Tuesday's hearing before the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee, Sen. Tommy Tomlinson said it's the duty of legislators to prevent the kind of regulatory shortcomings that allowed the clinic to operate unchecked for years.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams and members of his staff are testifying in front of Tomlinson's committee and the Health and Welfare committee.

Dr. Kermit Gosnell is due in court Wednesday to face charges after a grand jury alleged he routinely terminated late-term pregnancies and killed babies born alive by severing their spines with scissors.
