Prosecutors Charge 6 Former MontCo Prison Guards Accused of Inmate Abuse

Update: A jury acquitted five of the former guards of assault. A sixth guard pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to probation.

Prosecutors say six former correctional officers have been charged in connection with the assault of two inmates.

The ex-guards face charges including aggravated and simple assault, conspiracy and other offenses over the February assaults at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville.

District Attorney Kevin Steele says one of the inmates was beaten by six guards in his cell, taken to the prison's medical facility for treatment, and then beaten again.

Video surveillance shows the inmate never fought back.

He says another inmate was repeatedly punched in the face.

All six were arrested and arraigned Friday morning and fired after the alleged assaults.

No attorney information is available.
