Prisoner Dies 2 Days After Suicide Attempt

Officials say the death of a New Jersey man in a Pennsylvania prison will be investigated and prison procedures will be reviewed.

LancasterOnline.com said 26-year-old Patrick Kanney, of Pennsauken, N.J., died Wednesday, two days after attempting suicide at the Lancaster County prison.

Coroner Stephen Diamantoni said an autopsy Thursday has concluded that Kanney's death was a suicide by hanging.
Commissioner Scott Martin said an internal investigation will determine if prison procedures were followed or whether they need to be changed.

Kanney had been jailed since April 19 on charges of theft, loitering and prowling as the result of incidents the day before in Ephrata.
