Inmate Convicted of Slashing Pennsylvania Prison Guard

An inmate has been convicted of slashing a guard at a Pennsylvania prison in April 2014.

Joel Perez, 42, was found guilty Wednesday of aggravated assault in the slashing attack at the state prison in Dallas, Pennsylvania.

Authorities say he used a razor blade melted into the handle of a toothbrush to slice the right side of correctional Officer Francis Petroski's face.

Perez is serving a life sentence for a killing in Lancaster. He maintained his innocence throughout the trial even though prosecutors say video evidence and accounts from correctional officers made it clear that he was the culprit.

Petroski retired last month.

Perez is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 15.
