Prison Guard Has Sex With Inmate, Plans Escape: Prosecutors

A Philadelphia man could go from federal prison guard to federal prisoner. He is accused of having sex with an inmate and trying to help her escape.

Former prison guard Lamont Lucas, 47, allegedly carried on a sexual relationship with an inmate at the Federal Detention Center in Philly from February to May 2012.

Lucas, a prison guard for 18 years, supervised a tool shop at the prison where he met the woman, prosecutors said.

According to a federal indictment he gave the unidentified inmate silver earrings and attempted to help her break out of prison.

He left his job at the prison in August.

In court Thursday, Lucas pleaded not guilty to a slew of charges including providing contraband in prison, assisting an attempted escape and sexual abuse of a ward.

He was released on his own recognizance. He faces up to 20 years in prison if he is found guilty.

He had no comment to NBC10’s Lu Ann Cahn as he left court Thursday afternoon.
