Practice Bomb Found in Home, Mobile Home Park Evacuated

An Ocean County mobile home park was evacuated on Wednesday after a practice bomb was found inside a home.

Police say a cleaning crew was inside a foreclosed mobile home on Woodchuck Parkway in the Pine Ridge Mobile home park in the Whiting section of Manchester Township. While inside, they found an object that resembled a military bomb.

The cleaning personnel brought the object to the Pine Ridge main office and alerted police. Manchester Police and the Whiting Fire company evacuated the area while officials from the Fort Dix Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit responded to the scene. The Unit determined that the object was a 25 pound practice bomb used by the military as a training aid for pilots.

The residents were allowed back inside their homes after an hour and the practice bomb was removed and properly disposed. Police have not yet revealed the owner of the object.
