Power Outage Forces School Closing

More than 1,000 customers, including a school, are without power in the Fort Washington area this morning.

Power went out in that area around 6:45 a.m. forcing the closure of Wordsworth Academy and leaving 1327 customers in the dark, according to PECO.

In total, 14,000 are powerless in the Philadelphia area with 8,000 of those customers in Pottstown.

PECO crews are working on restoring power to all those customers.

A PECO representative tells NBC10 that power should be restored by late this morning, early this afternoon.

Atlantic City Electric is reporting a little more than 300 customers without power as of 11:10 a.m.

Gusty winds, almost 50 mph, are believed to be the cause of the outages.
