Police: Woman Was Fake Cop When She Stole Dog

County police say a Pennsylvania woman pretended to be a city cop before she stole a woman's dog that later wound up in a shelter with its tail mutilated.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 41-year-old Lisa Patterson, who is charged with impersonating a public servant, theft and other crimes for incidents that began in June involving a dog named Blade owned by a city police clerk.

Police say Patterson visited the clerk's home and claimed to be from an animal advocacy group investigating an abuse complaint. Patterson left when the clerk denied abusing the animal, but the clerk found the dog missing the next day.

Police say Patterson claimed to be a Pittsburgh police officer when took the dog to a shelter with a mutilated tail. Police aren't sure when that happened.
