Accident Sparks N. Philly Gun Battle

After firing shots at security guards who witnessed the accident, police were forced to shoot a 32-year-old man.

A man is hospitalized after being shot in the leg by police early Tuesday morning in North Philadelphia.

Authorities tell NBC10 that it all began with a fender bender on 9th and Berks Streets near Temple University’s campus just after 2 a.m.

Four unarmed University security guards were passing by when the accident happened. The 32-year-old suspect got out of the car and fired at least 10 shots at the guards, investigators tell NBC10.

Police caught up with the suspect at 11th and Norris. That’s where they say the man pointed a gun at them, forcing an officer to open fire, hitting him in the leg.

He was taken to Temple Hospital. He is in stable condition.

The driver of the other car involved in the fender bender was not injured.
