Police Shoot Man Holding Mother at Knifepoint

Police shot and wounded a man who they say was holding a butcher knife to his mother's throat at their northern New Jersey home.

Passaic County prosecutors tell The Record that 37-year-old Francisco Pacheco was shot once in the head after he tried to drag his mother inside the home.

Pacheco and his 60-year-old mother were both hospitalized in stable condition, but further details were not disclosed.

Pacheco was charged with aggravated assault, criminal restraint, weapons offenses and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $125,000.

The incident began when police responded to the home early Saturday for a medical assistance call.

No other residents were injured in the incident. A Wayne police officer was treated at the hospital for minor hand injuries and was later released.
