Police Seek Woman Who May Have Been Attacked by Rabid Raccoon

Authorities in a suburban Philadelphia township are asking for help locating a woman who may have come in contact with a rabid raccoon.

Police were called to investigate reports of a raccoon growling and hissing at people outside the Wayne Post Office over the weekend.

Witnesses said the animal knocked a woman to the ground but she left before police arrived.

Radnor Township police found the raccoon a short time later and euthanized it. The animal is believed to have been rabid. Its remains were still being tested Monday.

Authorities say it is urgent that the woman who came into contact with the raccoon to contact the state Department of Health because she could have been infected.
