Missing Elderly Chester County Couple Found Safe

A missing elderly husband and wife from Chester County were found safe Saturday night in Union Township, Berks County.

Police say Dominic and Barbara Jampo were found in a wooded area in Union Township. Pennsylvania State Police responded to a Union Township home for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway. A witness told police an elderly couple had left a Lexus parked there and walked into the woods.

State Troopers later located the 76-year-old man and 77-year-old woman in the wooded area. Police say they appeared to be disoriented and they were taken to the Pottstown Hospital for medical evaluations.

The husband and wife went missing Friday morning. Police say they left the Bellingham Retirement Community to go to the grocery store but never returned. They were last heard from around 9:30 a.m. that morning by one of their children.

Police later said they received a tip that the couple stopped at the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in Media, Pa. Friday around 5 p.m. to ask for directions to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Willow Grove.

Police were especially concerned for the couple's wellbeing due to the fact that Dominic Jampo is dependent on insulin while Barbara Jampo is in the early stages of dementia.

Union Township, where they were found, is located a little over 26 miles away from the Bellingham Retirement Community.
