Police Find Missing Girl, 5, Take Woman in for Questioning

Police have found a 5-year-old girl who went missing Saturday afternoon after she was left with a babysitter.

The little girl was located shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday, and police said she was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children to be checked out, but appeared unharmed.

The 5-year-old, Tamira Horton, was reported missing about 2 a.m. Sunday by a 55-year-old woman, who said she was babysitting the little girl on Saturday at an apartment on 22nd Street near Somerset. The woman said she left the little girl in the care of a second woman, identified only as "Kendra," about 2:30 p.m. when she went to pick up school supplies.

Five-year-old Tamira Horton has been missing from 22nd Street near Somerset in Philadelphia since Saturday afternoon, when police say she was last seen there with a woman who was babysitting her. Police are asking the public’s help to find the girl.

When the 55-year-old woman arrived back at the apartment about 4 p.m., she discovered the little girl and Kendra were missing. She tried to track them down and tried to reach the child's mother, 27-year-old Lakisha Horton, for several hours to no avail, police said.

When police found the little girl, they took a woman she had been with into custody for questioning. No charges have been announced.
