Police Officer Struck in Hit-and-Run

Police say the driver was under the influence when she struck a female police officer.

A female police officer is in the hospital after a hit-and-run accident in Center City.

It happened late Friday night. Investigators say a woman driving a Silver Ford Focus turned into a construction zone on 10th and Sansom.

Officers who were patrolling the zone stopped the vehicle and told the woman to turn around. Investigators also say they noticed the woman was under the influence.

Police say the woman then tried to drive off, striking Officer Kim Klepowski. When she couldn't get out of the construction zone, the woman then allegedly backed up and struck the officer once again before driving off.

The accident happened in front of Jefferson Hospital. Staff at the hospital quickly came out to rescue Klepowski. She is currently in stable condition with minor bumps and bruises.

Police say the female driver was found early Saturday morning in Audobon, New Jersey where she is currently in custody. The woman has not been extradited in Philadelphia yet and therefore has not been officially processed and charged. Police believe that should happen Sunday.
