Officer Hit by Porsche Home From Hospital

22-year-old driver arrested and charged

A veteran police officer in Tredyffrin Township has been released from an area hospital after he was struck by a car while responding to a burglary alarm.

Officer Lawrence Meoli was released from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after suffering injuries to his head, arm, and chest. He is currently recovering at home.

Investigators say that Meoli was investigating the burglary alarm shortly before 8 p.m. Friday at 73 Old Eagle School Road when he was struck by a Porsche driven by 22-year-old Bennett Colesberry III of Wayne.

“It is a miracle that Officer Meoli was not killed," Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said in a statement. "Any injury to a Chester County law enforcement officer is a serious matter. All of Chester County law enforcement will continue to investigate this matter. Our prayers are with Officer Meoli and his family."

Colesberry remained on the scene and was eventually arrested. He faces charges of recklessly endangering another person, drug possession, and various traffic offenses. Colesberry has since been released, pending further investigation.
