Police are investigating two shootings in Philadelphia, one of them involving their own.

Police say an officer shot a man in the Parkside section of the city around 5:45 p.m. on 53rd Street and West Columbia Avenue. The man was struck once in the elbow. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is in stable condition.

Police have not yet revealed what led to the shooting. They continue to investigate.

Police are also investigating a shooting in North Philadelphia. Witnesses say a fight broke out at a bodega on Diamond and North Leithgow Streets, also around 5:45 p.m. After the fight was briefly broken up, witnesses say a red Pontiac Grand Prix pulled up and a gunman from inside opened fire before speeding away. Police have not yet confirmed whether anyone was struck. Neighbors say however that a woman was struck in the chest and taken to the hospital.
