Sisters Identified in Motel Double Murder

Two sisters were shot in the head inside a Berks County motel

A double murder inside a Berks County motel has left investigators scratching their heads and the community on edge.

Carolyn Levan, 60, and her 57-year-old sister Charlene were found shot to death inside the office at the Hillside Motel in Amity Township, Pa. around 6 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Both women suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, officials said.

“We’re relatively certain this happened sometime during the day, broad daylight,” said Amity Twp. Police Chief Kent Shuebrook.

Investigators checked all rooms of the motel along Route 422 for both the killer and any more possible victims. Several people were questioned by police but no arrests have been made. Police have no suspects and no motives for the murders.

“Right now it is an enigma, which is frustrating to us,” Capt. Shuebrook said. They only know that Carolyn was a permanent resident of the motel.

The lack of clues and suspects has left many in the area worried for their own safety.

“Everybody’s a little bit nervous, but we have our security cameras and stuff so that keeps them at ease,” said Nina Shah, manager of the nearby Econo Lodge.

Amity Twp. Police are still collecting evidence in the case and can’t blame the community for being frightened.

“I wish I could tell them to be calm but I certainly can’t,” said Shuebrook. “We have no suspect at this point. Obviously there’s someone out there who is violent.”
