Police: Man Starts Motel Fire to Cover Up Rape

Police are searching for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a suburban motel before setting the room on fire to cover up the evidence.

The unidentified man and woman were on a date when they drove to the Country House Motel in Falls Township, Pa. Tuesday night. Once there, the man pulled a weapon, forced the woman inside a room and sexually assaulted her several times, police said.

The woman was able to escape by climbing out the bathroom window after telling the suspect she felt sick. When the man realized she was gone, he lit fire to the room and fled, police said.

The woman walked to a nearby 7-11 store and called police for help. Surveillance video from the same convenience store caught clear pictures of the man and his car earlier that night.

Authorities are hoping someone will recognize the man, who used a fictitious name, and his white Pontiac Grand Prix with tinted windows. He is described as a 6-foot tall black male with a shaved head and tattooed arms wearing a yellow tee shirt and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Falls Township Police at 215.949.9100.
