Police Make Arrest in Murder of Man, 21, Stabbed After Warning Wrong-Way Driver

Police have made an arrest in the fatal stabbing of a Mayfair man who neighbors said was attacked after shouting to warn a wrong-way driver early Saturday morning.

Thomas Ewing, 21, was on Revere Street near Cottman Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday when a car traveled the wrong way down the one-way street. Bystanders said Ewing, whose Facebook profile says he attended the Community College of Philadelphia and was studying criminal justice, shouted to warn the wrong-way driver. At that point, the car allegedly stopped and a passenger jumped out and stabbed Ewing in the chest and torso before getting back in the car and taking off. Ewing died less than an hour later at Aria Health's Torresdale hospital.

Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of 39-year-old Angel Maldonado, of Claridge Street near Pike, in Juniata, for Ewing's murder. Maldonado was arrested Tuesday, police said, and is charged with murder and related offenses.
