Police Make Arrest in Father, Son Shooting

Police arrested a man connected to a shooting that left one man dead and his father injured.

Philadelphia Police arrested a man allegedly connected to a shooting in the Frankford section of the city that left one man dead and his father injured.

The shooting happened May 20, around 10:30 p.m., on the 1200 block of Adams Avenue. A family member tells NBC10 that two men in their 20s asked 25-year-old Edward Pagan for a cigarette. When he informed the suspects that he couldn't give them one, an argument ensued, the family member says. It was then, according to family, that one of the men pulled out a gun and shot Pagan and his 50-year-old father, Victor Guzman.

Police say Guzman, an off-duty corrections officer, was shot in the wrist and taken to Temple University Hospital. He was treated and released. His son was shot in the chest and also taken to Temple Hospital where he died just after midnight, according to authorities.

Last Saturday police say someone also threw a Molotov cocktail at Guzman’s home. Guzman was asleep in the house at the time and was not injured.

On Tuesday police arrested Jalil Cooper, 20, of the 4200 block of Penn Street. Police say Cooper was apprehended at his uncle’s apartment.
