Police Investigate Death of Penn State Student

Police were seeking witnesses and continuing to investigate what caused a Penn State student driving a university hotel van to crash the vehicle and die.

State College police say 21-year-old Joshua Mejia, of Bergenfield, New Jersey, was driving the van when it crashed and burned Sunday about 2 p.m.

The senior was driving the van for The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

Mejia had dropped off a passenger at University Park Airport and was returning to the hotel when he apparently missed an exit ramp and tried to make the turn anyway. He hit a sign post and a concrete barrier.

Mejia was wearing a seatbelt, but died of severe head and chest trauma.
