Colonial School District officials say they received a “credible threat” that a student would bring a weapon to the George Read Middle School in New Castle, Delaware on Tuesday.

Officials say the threat came in the form of a written note. They also say they have not yet confirmed the identity of the person who wrote it.

Officials notified New Castle Police as well as parents. New Castle Police officers and school district officials will conduct a search of every student who enters the middle school on Tuesday.

“Searches will be conducted for an indefinite period of time, as safety is our number one priority,” wrote Colonial School District officials on their Facebook page. “If you choose to keep your child at home tomorrow, it will be an excused absence.”

George Read Middle School is located on E. Basin Road in New Castle.
