Police Investigate Chesco Flag Burnings

Police are investigating two flag burning reports in Downingtown, according to the Daily Local.

The first incident happened on April 11th around 7 p.m.

Police say they received a report of someone who burned a piece of the bottom of an American flag at an apartment above the DNB First Bank on Lancaster Avenue.

That same night, around 9:20 p.m., police received a report from a town council member who said that someone burned his flag outside of his home on West Pennsylvania Avenue.

"We definitely want to get to the bottom of it and get an understanding and make it known that it is against the law to burn the American flag," said Lieutenant Howard Holland of the Downingtown Police Department.

"It's a misdemeanor level in Pennsylvania."

Police have no suspects and are unsure if the two incidents are related.

Investigators don’t believe the incidents were politically motivated however.

Despite that belief, Downingtown resident Georgiana Gamanga, who moved to the area from West Africa ten years ago, has a clear message for whoever is responsible for the incidents.

"You're stupid and you should respect this country," said Georgiana.

"Do something else with your life."

If you have any information on either incident, call the Downingtown Police at 610.269.0263.
