For the second time in a day, a shooting report in Bala Cynwyd was determined by police to be a hoax.
Police were called to the 100 block of School Street in the Belmont Hills section of Bala Cynwyd for a report of a shooting. Police arrived at the scene but later determined the shooting was a hoax, telling NBC10 it was an example of a swatting.
Earlier on Saturday, another shooting was reported on the 600 block of Lindy Lane at the Hill Gate community in Bala Cynwyd. Police later determined that shooting was also a hoax however.
Police continue to search for the person or people responsible for the false reports.
A swatting is a dangerous prank in which callers report crimes that never occurred. In recent years several swatting incidents, which police say waste taxpayer money and officers' time, have been reported across the country.
