Police Investigate Attempted Child Lurings in Berks County

Police are investigating more reports of attempted child lurings in Berks County.

The most recent incident occurred Monday in Reading.

A 5th grade student at Riverside Elementary School told police she was walking on Centre Avenue near the Children’s Home of Reading with her sibling after early dismissal. As they were walking, a man in a green Durango pulled up, rolled down his window and asked the girl to get in his car, police said.

The girl and her sibling then ran home as the man ran a red light at Centre Avenue, fleeing the scene.

A male student at 13th and Green Elementary School in Reading also told police he was walking home Friday afternoon on the 600 block of North 12th Street between Greenwich and Oley streets when he was approached by a man driving a dark-colored van.

The man, who police say is between the ages of 50 and 60, asked the boy to get in the vehicle. The boy ran home and told his mother, who filed a police report. She then reported the incident to the school Monday.

Investigators said the man in Friday’s incident was wearing a black hat and black jacket with a white shirt underneath.

The latest incidents come several days after a man tried to abduct an 11-year-old girl in Spring Township, Berks County.

If you have information on any of the incidents, call police immediately.
