Pa. Police K-9 Recovering After Surgery

Police dog shot in central Pa. to be released soon

Authorities in central Pennsylvania say a police dog shot during a search for a suspect is recovering and should be released from an animal hospital soon.

The suspect was shot and killed by police in Lower Paxton Township on Friday evening. Authorities say he had opened fire and hit the dog in the neck and was shot after refusing to drop his weapon. Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico has identified the suspect who was killed as 20-year-old Skyler Stewart.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports the dog, a 2-1/2-year-old Belgian Malinois named Zeke, underwent two hours of surgery Saturday. Authorities say he's expected to be home no later than Tuesday.

Police say they were looking for Stewart in connection with someone who was found stabbed and shot.
