Investigators say the alleged carjacker crashed into the woods after being pursued by police.
An alleged carjacker is in the hospital after a police chase in Gloucester County.
It began around 6:20 p.m. after Gloucester County Dispatch was notified by Vineland Police that their patrol units viewed a stolen vehicle near West Boulevard and that the driver was armed.
Investigators say officers found the vehicle and the suspect shortly after in the parking lot of Gonzalez Park on Malaga Park Drive in Franklin Township. When an officer tried to apprehend him, police say the suspect drove off through the playground area and onto Malaga Park Drive. Other patrol units tried to stop the suspect who continued to drive north on Malaga Park towards Delsea Drive at a high speed, according to investigators.
Police say the suspect then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree on the northbound shoulder of Delsea. The driver, who police identified as Moses Rice, 30, of VIneland, was taken into custody and airlifted to Cooper Medical Center for injuries he suffered during the crash.
Police say Rice was wanted for robbery, carjacking and other related offenses.
