Police Chase Crash Sends Motorcyclist to Hospital

An injured motorcyclist was taken into police custody after he led officers on a seven-mile chase from Philadelphia to Plymouth Meeting overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The chase began when officers attempted to pull a man in his 30s over for speeding on the Schuylkill in the area of Roosevelt Blvd. and City Ave. just after midnight, police said. Instead of stopping, the motorcyclist took off, headed westbound on I-76 to the Blue Route. The driver exited on Ridge Pike and then fell off his bike and into an embankment at the intersection of Germantown Pike and Chemical Rd., said officials.

He was transported to Paoli Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is in police custody and is expected to be charged with speeding, fleeing and eluding officers, police said.

An investigation into why the unidentified driver failed to pull over is underway.
