The father of a 4-year-old boy who shot and killed his 6-year-old neighbor was free on bail Tuesday morning after being arrested the night before.

On Monday, around 6:30 p.m., detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested Anthony Senatore, 33, at a home in Bayville, N.J. Senatore is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and enabling access by minors to a loaded firearm.

He posted $100,000 bail and left jail.

On April 8, police say Senatore’s 4-year-old son gained access to an unsecured .22 caliber rifle in Senatore’s bedroom inside his Toms River home. The boy fired a single shot which struck his 6-year-old neighbor, Brandon Holt, in the head. Holt was taken to the Jersey Shore Medical Center where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Senatore was charged after an investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. According to officials, in addition to the loaded .22 caliber rifle, a Stevens 12-gauge shotgun, two Harrington & Richardson shotguns and a Remington 12-gauge shotgun were all found unsecured, close to ammunition and easily accessible to Senatore’s children, ages 12, 8 and 4.

Senatore was lodged at the Ocean County Jail on $100,000 cash or bond bail.
