Police Arrest Alleged Hit-and-Run Driver

Police arrested a driver accused of hitting and killing a Camden man then fleeing the scene.

Police say an arrest has been made in a fatal Camden hit-and-run.

Alberto Laguna-Rodriguez was arrested last Friday.

Laguna-Rodriguez is accused of hitting and killing 32-year-old Edwin Cardona back on March 17. It happened around 11 p.m. at Biedeman and River roads in Camden.

Police say Laguna-Rodriguez was traveling west on River Road in a 1998 GMC Yukon when he struck Cardona. He then allegedly left the scene without stopping to help the victim, according to investigators.

Police released a surveillance video last Tuesday of the vehicle believed to be involved in the accident. A friend of Cardona's spotted a vehicle that matched the description given by police. Investigators say the friend followed the vehicle from Camden to Pennsauken and notified police who then arrested Laguna-Rodriguez.

Laguna-Rodriguez is currently being held in the Camden County Jail. He is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, driving while suspended and causing a fatality.
