Pizzeria Owner Sentenced for Failing to Report Income

A New Jersey man who owns a New York City pizzeria has been sentenced for purposely filing false tax returns that omitted more than $500,000 in business income that he kept for his personal benefit.

Federal prosecutors say Amadeus Manata received a 10-month prison term on Monday. The 57-year-old Warren resident also must make full restitution to the IRS and will have to serve one year of supervised release once he's freed from prison.

Manata had pleaded guilty to subscribing to false personal federal income tax returns.

Prosecutors say that for the tax years 2005 through 2007, Manata intentionally omitted $563,343 in cash he had diverted from his business, Pizza Pasta Etc. in Manhattan. That resulted in a tax loss to the government of $190,712.
