Authorities say a runner who went into cardiac arrest and collapsed during a Pittsburgh race was treated by paramedics at the scene and is expected to survive.
Public safety officials said the 53-year-old New Castle man collapsed along the route for the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
Officials said paramedics — two of whom were runners and one who was on a motorcycle — arrived within moments and gave him CPR using a defibrillator.
He was revived and taken to UPMC Presbyterian, and officials said he is expected to survive. Authorities said there were no other major incidents during the race.
