Pit Bull Locates NJ Woman, 89, Who Wandered From Home

Police say the woman may have suffered slight hypothermia, but was physically OK otherwise.

Police say a pit bull located an 89-year-old woman in the woods, lying on the ground and covered in mud.

Owner Cara Jones tells NJ.com that she let her dog, Creature, out to relieve himself near her Piscataway home Thursday night.

The two-year-old dog began barking wildly.

Jones says she ran inside to get a flashlight and cellphone and followed Creature into the woods where she found Carmen Mitchell on the ground.

Authorities had been searching for hours for Mitchell, who walked away from her family's home earlier Thursday.

Piscataway Police Capt. Kenneth Blair says the woman may have suffered slight hypothermia, but was physically OK otherwise.

Jones says her dog's heroics are a chance for a pit bull to get some good publicity.
