Pit Bull Found with “Massive” Dog Fighting Injuries: SPCA

Radar was found in a ravine badly bloodied and beaten

An emaciated pit bull named Radar was found Monday with “massive” dog fighting injuries in a ravine in Chester County, according to the county SPCA.

Caln Township Police Officer Joe Carboni and Animal Protective Officer Craig Baxter found a 38-pound pit bull with multiple wounds to his face in a ravine on the side of Fisherville Road in Coatesville.

The dog was badly hurt and its ribs, spine and hipbones were clearly visible. He had swelling on his muzzle nearly twice its normal size and all four of his legs were swollen from puncture wounds, according to authorities.

“He was in such bad shape that I thought he was hit by a car,” Carboni said. “He was shivering and couldn’t lift his head.”

Officer Baxter took the pit bull to the West Chester Veterinary Medical Center and it was determined the injuries were caused by dogfighting.

“This dog and this breed are unfairly painted as monsters," said CCSPCA spokesman Rich Britton. "It’s the people who abuse these animals who are the real monsters."

The folks at the SPCA named the injured dog "Radar" in honor of their putting dogfighting on the radar campaign.

CCSPCA is looking for the perpetrator(s) involved in Radar’s animal cruelty and is asking the public for tips regarding any dogfighting in Chester County.

“The Chester County SPCA wants the public to know that dogfighting is on our radar,” Britton said.

The CCSPCA will hold a press conference Thursday at 2 p.m. to address Radar’s incident, dogfighting and signs to look for that may indicate dogfighting.
