The pilot of a small plane escaped injury when the aircraft crashed on a beach in southern New Jersey.
Authorities say the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Ocean County community of Bay Head. The small Cessna-style plane - which was flying northbound along the coast - experienced engine trouble and glided down to land on the beach near Johnson Street, according to Bay Head Police Department Lt. Geoffrey Barger.
The pilot, whose name was not released, was alone in the plane. Authorities said he was able to get out of the aircraft by himself and did not appear to be injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
