Men Plead Guilty in NJ Pickaxe Killing

Two men pleaded guilty for their roles in the death of a New Jersey man who was beaten to death with a pickaxe.

Middlesex County prosecutors said 30-year-old Daniel Medaglia, of Edison, recently pleaded guilty to murder in the November 2011 slaying of Kelvin Dumo, a 28-year-old Edison resident. Medaglia now faces a 30-year prison term with no chance for parole.

A co-defendant, 32-year-old Ryan Morrell of Dunellen, pleaded guilty to hindering Medaglia's apprehension by driving him from the crime scene after Dumo was killed. Morrell will likely receive probation.

Prosecutors said sentencing dates for both men have not been scheduled.

Dumo's body was discovered at a commercial site in Sayreville. An autopsy determined that he died from blunt-force trauma to the head, and the death was ruled a homicide.
