Schools to Install Panic Buttons

A county in suburban Philadelphia is putting panic buttons in all of its public and private schools.

Authorities in Delaware County said Friday that they hope to have the silent alarms installed in 230 buildings by the time classes start this fall.

The buttons will allow school employees to immediately alert law enforcement of imminent threats or intruders.

The alarms are being paid for through a $189,000 state grant. Officials began pursuing the funds after last year's massacre at an elementary school in Connecticut.

Similar alarms have been installed in other districts across the U.S.
