Police Officer's Daughter Drowns During Floods

A police officer's daughter drowned after her car got stuck, becoming the city's first flood-related fatality.

A young woman drowned when her SUV got caught in flood waters, becoming Philadelphia first flood-related fatality, according to police.

"She got caught in her car," Lt. Raymond Evers told the Philadelphia Daily News.

The victim, 27, called her dad, who is a Philadelphia police officer, late Wednesday night to tell him she was headed home. On the way, her car got stuck in rising water in East Germantown, according to police.

Thursday morning, when she hadn't arrived home, the victim's father filed a missing person's report.

As it turned out, an officer had already found her SUV that morning and had it towed because they thought it was abandoned. After talking to her father, detectives went over to the tow lot and found her body inside the car.

"A tragic, tragic case," Lt. Evers said.

An autopsy was being performed. Police are not releasing the victim's name at this point
