The rankings were released by the American College of Sports Medicine

The American College of Sports Medicine has released its annual list of fittest cities in the U.S. and the Philadelphia area falls right in the middle.

The ACSM Fitness Index ranks us at No. 25. This ranking includes the surrounding Camden, N.J. and Wilmington, Del. area.

The Philadelphia area excels when it comes to the large number of people who use public transportation to get to work, or ride a bicycle or walk to work.

We have a higher percentage of city land area as parkland, according to the report, with more recreation centers, swimming pools and farmers' markets per capita than the national average.

As for areas of improvement-- our numbers of obese people and smokers are above the average, according to the ACSM index, along with the number of people with asthma, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Minneapolis-St. Paul ranked No. 1 on the list, followed by Washington, DC at No. 2.

Oklahoma City ranked last at No. 50.
