Philadelphia is considering a proposal to charge homeowners for weekly trash pickup as a way to raise cash in the current budget crisis.

Under the proposal, homeowners would be forced to pay $5 a week for the curbside service. That’s an extra $22 a month or $260 a year that you probably don’t have.

The mayor’s office says the revenue would pay for the city’s entire trash collection program.

Philly would not be the only major city to force residents to pay for the service. Phoenix charges $27 a month and in L.A., homeowners pay almost $40 a month.

Let’s hope city officials don't figure out what they charge...
