Philly Cop Faces DUI Charge

A 14-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police department is on administrative duty after being arrested for DUI.

Philadelphia Police Sgt Chanta Herder is accused of driving under the influence.Police Sgt. Chanta Herder, 42, was arrested just after 2 a.m. Monday following a minor crash with another car along the 7900 block of Verree Road in the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philadelphia.

Herder, who is assigned to the 19th District, was off duty at the time. She appeared impaired at the scene and later failed a breathalyzer test, Philadelphia Police said in a press release.

A Municipal Court judge arraigned Herder on a criminal mischief and DUI charge and released Herder on her own recognizance ahead of her Nov. 1 preliminary hearing.

The veteran cop is on desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.
