Armed Robbers Hit Northeast Philly, Lead Police on Chase

Two suspects pulled guns on people in several, separate armed robberies in Northeast Philly Wednesday and then led police on a chase before they were captured.

Authorities arrested the two gunmen around midnight in the backyard of a Nester Street home -- not far from the intersection of Welsh Road and Roosevelt Boulevard.

The suspects allegedly performed several armed robberies in the Bustleton and Somerton sections of the city throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening. Late Wednesday night, police responded to another robbery attempt on Verree Road -- about two miles from where the arrest took place.

Officers spotted a car speeding off from the scene as they arrived and they began pursuing the vehicle, calling in the Philadelphia Police helicopter for assistance.

The chopper followed the car through Northeast Philly as he weaved through traffic on Roosevelt Boulevard and ended up in a residential neighborhood, officials said.

The suspects jumped out of the car on Nester Street and began running, said police, who quickly caught up to the duo.

Both victims and witnesses identified the pair.

Authorities continue to investigate.
