Mom Accused of Beating Baby Boy to Death Inside Philadelphia Home

Nadirah Al-Kaabah was later charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of an instrument of crime

A woman is accused of beating her baby boy to death inside their Philadelphia home over the weekend.

Police first responded to the 1600 block of West Erie Ave. on Saturday at 9:26 a.m. after a family member called 911. When they arrived they found 5-month-old Nyeem Kitchen who was unresponsive and suffering from bruising on his neck and face. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:33 a.m.

Kitchen’s mother, 35-year-old Nadirah Al-Kaabah, was taken into custody for questioning. While speaking with police, Al-Kaabah allegedly admitted to beating her child. Police believe she struck him with a TV remote control and some type of musical toy.

Al-Kaabah was later charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of an instrument of crime.

Investigators also said Al-Kaabah has prior arrests, including one for an assault on a police officer.
