Mayor Jim Kenney Plans Park Over I-95 Linking City, Delaware River

Philadelphia's mayor is set to announce plans for an 11-acre park that would cap a section of Interstate 95 with green space and link the city with the Delaware River waterfront.

Mayor Jim Kenney tells PlanPhilly the estimated $225 million project at Penn's Landing will be tucked into his budget address on Thursday.

He's to announce a city commitment of $90 million, which will be doled out over six years for the park between Chestnut and Walnut streets.

The rest is expected to come from the state and from philanthropic donors.

No timeline for completion was given.

Recent improvements north and south of Penn's Landing have helped revive the once-faded area. Spruce Street Harbor Park offers a waterfront roller rink and seaport museum, food, beer, hammocks and boardwalk games.
