Postal Truck Gets Stuck After Water Main Break Causes Small Sinkhole in Philly Street

A postal truck got stuck after a water main break caused a small sinkhole in a Philadelphia street.

The 6-inch main broke along the 1600 block of North Street around 6 p.m. Sunday. The break caused the street to partially cave in and a postal truck later got stuck.

Responding crews were able to remove the vehicle. Philadelphia Water Department workers are currently making repairs to the street and broken main. A spokesperson for the department told NBC10 the water may be off for homes on the block until early Monday as the repairs continue.

A resident on the block told NBC10 she and her neighbors had called the Water Department nearly a week ago after they heard rushing water in their basements. She claimed Water Department workers responded to the initial call but did not respond to follow up phone calls when residents continued to hear the water. A spokesperson for the Water Department told NBC10 workers had fixed a broken main on the same block last Monday however.
