Philadelphia to Get School Dedicated to Contemporary Circus Arts

Philadelphia will soon be home to an institution where people will not only be able to learn and study about the contemporary circus, but walk away with a diploma.

The Philadelphia School of Circus Arts began in 2008, offering classes and sessions for those interesting in honing their circus skills, but the team behind that school have something else up their sleeves.

An announcement will be made Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., for Circadium, School of Contemporary Circus, a full-time, three-year, intensive training school for circus artists.

The coursework will include acrobatics, aerials, object manipulation, strength and flexibility, and more, according to its website. There will also be a "strong emphasis" on creation and entrepreneurship.

Circadium will be the only higher education program for contemporary circus arts in the country and will be the only one offering a state-recognized vocational diploma, according to Circadium officials.
