Philadelphia Restaurant Holds Fundraiser for Fallen Sgt. Robert Wilson

A Northeast Philadelphia restaurant is stepping up to honor fallen Philadelphia Police Sgt. Robert Wilson III – who was gunned down in a North Philadelphia GameStop – with a daylong fundraiser Wednesday.

Sweet Lucy’s Smokehouse at 7500 State Road will donate half of the day’s proceeds to the family of Officer Wilson, who left behind a 10-year-old son and 1-year-old son as well as a grandmother.

After learning about the tragic outcome of the attempted robbery, all three owners of the barbecue joint decided to launch a fundraiser on behalf of Officer Wilson’s family.

“I have a 9-year-old,” one of the owners Brooke Higgins said. “So it really hit home with me.”

With the police academy only being a few blocks away, the Sweet Lucy’s staff decided a fundraiser was the perfect opportunity to give back to the Philadelphia police.

“We really like to support the police,” Higgins said. “Their academy is right down the street, and they always give us good business so we felt that this something we really want to do.”
