Philadelphia Police Officer Faces Charges for Trying to Mail Marijuana

A Philadelphia Police officer is facing charges for allegedly trying to send marijuana in the mail.

Police said Officer William Branish Jr., a 14-year veteran who works in the 26th District in Fishtown, was arrested Tuesday and charged with drug possession and possession with intent to deliver. Authorities said Branish's arrest stemmed from an incident in which the officer allegedly tried to mail several small packages of marijuana by using someone else's account at a local company.

The package was returned as undeliverable, police said, and received by another employee at the company Branish tried to use to mail it, leading to an Internal Affairs investigation. Police said they became aware of the incident on Jan. 5 and began investigating.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross suspended Branish, who is 43, with intent to dismiss him from the force.
